Oh! Canada!

Beautiful British Columbia

Well if you think I’ve dropped off the face of the earth, never fear!  I have taken a bit of time off to visit Mum and Dad in my country of birth, the Great White North, Canada.

Canada is such an amazingly beautiful place and with such a varied terrain that there is something for everyone to enjoy.  I personally am loving the vistas afforded me by the grand snow-capped mountains, towering evergreens, winding hills, ocean breezes, and beautiful valleys of Victoria, British Columbia.

It’s so vastly different than the flat farmland I call home now and while I love my little farmhouse and have a blast toodling down country roads in my new Smart Car, I must confess that seeing something on the horizon certainly is a nice change of pace.

It’s nice to visit with family and I have enjoyed every moment.  While Dad, in the throes of his advanced Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, no longer recognizes me, it still is gratifying to hold his hand in the nursing home and reconnect with the man who played such a large role in my upbringing.

And while Mum soldiers on with her myriad of ailments, she still never fails to offer a smile and a word of encouragement, and in her home I feel transformed back to the little girl of what seems eons ago.

I’ve been able to see some of the local colour, enjoy meeting with my fellow countrymen (they say you can take the girl out of Canada but you can’t take Canada out of the girl!), and even venture into one of my favorite venues…you guessed it…the Salvation Army Thrift Store

And I would not have been able to upload this post if I had not just talked my 80-year-old mother into FINALLY getting the internet! (go Mum!)

So while it has seemed like forever since I’ve posted, you can see now why I have taken this hiatus.

Even bloggers like to have some downtime!

Oh Canada!
